Akanji comments on the BVB-Zoff about the Captain’s Office

Following Mats Hummels’commitment, Manuel Akanji has recently slipped from the ranks of the leading players in the football league Borussia Dortmund. The Swiss commented on reports that Zoff had been asked about the position of vice-capital at the BVB.

“I have honestly never spoken about it before in an interview and I will not comment on it now either. I have no personal problems with Mats Hummels and still feel very comfortable at Dortmund,”the 24-year-old explained in a conversation with the portal “.

When Borussia brought Hummels back this summer, the Routinian immediately ascended to the vice-captain. Akanji, who had previously been one of Marco Reus’lieutenants, was removed from the ranks of the vice-captains.

According to a report by the “Sport Image”, Akanji subsequently resigned from the team council in protest of his dismissal. There the Defensive Specialist was considered to be a representative of the interests of younger players.

It was said that the change in the leadership structure had come as a surprise for other players as well.

Sportally, however, the national player sees the BVB as a whole on a good path. The recent defeat at Union Berlin (1:3) makes no difference: “We won four games with Dortmund and lost only one. This is certainly not a crisis. This is normal in football,”he made clear.

In the future, Akanji can well imagine slipping up and next to the square into a central role again:”I want to try to take responsibility,”he said.

This was especially true for the Swiss national team. With the nation, the former FC Basel player is currently fighting for the qualification for the European Championship. On Thursday (20:45 o’clock) the duel with Ireland starts in Quali.
