Delaney confesses: “It was a tough time”

Thomas Delaney faces an uncertain sporting future with German vice-champion Borussia Dortmund. If all players are available to his head coach Lucien Favre for the upcoming Bundesliga preparations, it could be more than narrow for the defensive middle fielder.

At least as far as his own ambitions are concerned, to run for the BVB in the starting formation. Delaney was only awarded eleven times after his long injury breaks, five times after the league rematch. Delaney benefited from the injury-related losses of direct competitors for chief strategist Axel Witsel, for whom he rotated to the starting eleven in May and June.

The last few weeks the 28-year-old had to take his seat again on the reserve bank. It also threatens him in the season 2020/2021. But the Danish national player does not want to just hand over his post in front of the three-way defence chain. Delaney himself stressed to the “Ruhr News”: “I know what I can and I trust that the coach knows it too. If I am needed, then I am there and I bring my performance.”

Delaney has”hard time”behind him

A promise that sounds almost like a threat to the competitors around Emre Can and Mahmoud Dahoud, with whom he will probably have to compete mainly around the center field next to Axel Witsel.

Delaney has two more years of contract with BVB and is not currently thinking of leaving. Rather, many of the mentality players throw their qualities into the scales to offer themselves to the training team in the coming weeks.

The ultimate goal for the ex-Bremer is to stay healthy. In 2019/2020, he fell out for months due to a ligature injury and then a knee injury. This was a difficult time,”Delaney emphasized, especially with regard to the second Blessur, which turned out to be significantly more serious than initially assumed.
