For months now, the Swiss national player Kevin Mbabu has been linked by the BSC Young Boys to a switch to the Bundesliga. Until now, Eintracht Frankfurt was considered the most promising candidate, but now another club could be in between.
Meant is Borussia Monkngladbach, currently fourth in the table and thus on Champions League course. As the “Rheinische Post” reports, the foals would love to take the versatile defender to the Lower Rhine. Mbabu was therefore “in the eye for a long time” of manager Max Eberl.
Problem: The constantly strong achievements of the 23-year-old legal defender have brought much more powerful clubs to the plan. Even at Juventus Turin, Mbabu was traded in the meantime.
Since the contract of sworn partner 2020 expires and an extension is not in sight, The young-boys bosses would probably agree to a sale in the summer with their teeth gnashing.
Switching to the FC Schalke failed at the drop
In January a transfer to the FC Schalke had still failed at the Bernese replacement demand. The twelve million euro called had exceeded the royal blue budget. The VfB Stuttgart had already waved off.
The “Rheinische Post” speculates that the good wire between Mbabu and Frankfurt’s coach Adi Hutter could play a decisive role. Both had worked very successfully with the Young Boys.
In the current season Mbabu was in 25 obligatory games (one goal, three templates) for Bern in the place, but repeatedly beat around with smaller brass. In the top duel against FC Basel (2:2), he played again for the last 90 minutes.
