Ferrari makes it clear: Will not give a B-version of SF90

Although the start of the season in Formula 1 for Ferrari was a big deal, Scuderia is not planning a completely new car.

There will be no B version,”team leader Mattia Binotto announces to Gazzetta dello Sport. Instead, the SF90 is to be developed in a linear way to make up ground on the previously dominant Mercedes. Pirelli has brought tyres with a thinner tread this season. Already 2018, four Grand Prix had such thinner tires in use, which at that time were more opposed to Mercedes. And even this year Ferrari must realize: “Our project fits very badly with the current tires.”

However, the Italian does not make assumptions, Pirelli has thus preferred his rivals. Ferrari had a long time to shoot himself on the new tires, but he didn’t get it right. In addition, the problems were completely different from the previous year: “2018 we had to avoid overheating them, and now the difficulty is to get them at temperature.”

The question is, however, why Ferrari did not seem to understand the pneumonia, if the competition could. The tyres also have a different design, it is not just about the running surface,”says Binotto and admits:”It is true that last year we did not understand all the needs for the tyres 2019. And when they were quite specific in the Abu Dhabi test in December, the SF90 had already been dropped.”

With this mortgage Ferrari now has to cope and is working feverishly to get the situation under control with the tires.” We already have ideas and we have to implement them quickly,”says Binotto,”but it’s going to take a few weeks.”Nevertheless, he sticks to his goal:”The goal is, This could be 2019 but it could be difficult: Ferrari is already 118 points behind in six races after six races.
