Lewis Hamilton won the Turkish Grand Prix last Sunday and wrote sports history. With his 94th Grand Prix victory he not only continued to build his furious record, but also secured his seventh world championship prematurely.
No driver in the history of motor sports was more successful than the 35-year-old, who was able to set the best value of Michael Schumacher with title number seven.
Hamilton made the decisive turning point for his golden career with the change to Mercedes in the year 2013. After six years at McLaren, the Brit followed Michael Schumacher in the silver arrows and raced with the German Constructor from one victory to the next. In total, he entered six of his seven World Championships with Mercedes.
Everything could have gone quite differently. As the Formula-1 superstar of the Italian sports newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport has now revealed, in recent years he has also repeatedly had loose conversations with the great Mercedes competitor Ferrari.
“We occasionally talked and exchanged what options are on the table”, Hamilton reported on the past. However, there had never been any concrete negotiations about a possible switch to the Italian traditional stall.
One reason for this was particularly inappropriate timing. My contracts always ended in different years than the other Ferrari drivers. I think timing is important and things happen for a certain reason,”Hamilton continued.
His stay with the silver paved the way for him to the most successful Formula One career of all time. At Mercedes, Hamilton is no longer able to beat Nico Rosberg in the year 2016 since the World Cup title and wants to hunt the eighth World Champion star next season, which would bring him the single record in this category as well.
