Christopher Nkunku joined the Bundesliga in the summer for 13 million euros from Paris Saint-Germain to RB Leipzig. His farewell was also to PSG coach Thomas Tuchel, as the Shooting Star reports.
“I once played, then I did not. And at some point I couldn’t really explain why I couldn’t get to the phone,”the 22-year-old explained in an interview with”Sport Bild”.
Nkunku was trained at the Capital Club and celebrated his debut in the Champions League at the end of 2015, but he never got beyond the status of a complementary player in the aftermath.” I had played well in my bets and still had to go to the bank,”said the central midfielder.
Tuchel wanted to persuade him to stay with PSG. He always said I was good, but the competition is high. He told me that there were players ahead of me and wanted me to be patient and to continue working.”However, in the last season Nkunku was only in the league thirteen times in the starting eleven. A clear reason for a change of wallpaper: “I have not played enough under the line.”
Nkunku, who is selected as the Bundesliga rookie of the month of November, was ultimately “a perfectionist”, who was “never satisfied” with “not being in the starting eleven often at the moment. And not with us on top now. One must never stop trying to improve oneself.”
With three goals and seven templates, the French U21 national player has a big part in RB Leipzig standing behind Borussia Munich in second place in the Bundesliga. His contract with the Saxons runs up to 2024.
