The Rhine-Neckar lions have responded to the long-term failure of Mikael Appelgren and have contracted Nikolas Katsigiannis as another gatekeeper.
The 38-year-old who was und er contract at the Ligarivalen HC Erlangen last season and from 2015 to 2016 also wore the T-shirt of the THW Kiel, signed a contract with the current table leader until the end of the season. Already on Thursday in the home game against SC DHfK Leipzig, Katsigiannis will make his debut for the lions.
“Katze knows the Bundesliga like hardly any other gatekeeper. For us, his commitment at this stage is an absolute stroke of luck. He will be a very important partner for Andreas Palicka in the upcoming many games,”said Oliver Roggisch, Sports Leader of the Lions, about the commitment of the five-time German A-national player.
Sweden’s National Gatekeeper Appelgren is expected to fall out after a shoulder-op by the end of the year.
