World Handballer Nikola Karabatic leaves Champions League winner FC Barcelona prematurely. As the Catalans announced on Thursday, the French World and European Champions and Olympic winners make use of a termination clause in their current contract up to 2017. A change of 31-year-old to his homeland to Paris St. Germain has long been speculating.
The former Kieler has played for Barcelona since 2013. With the Spaniards Karabatic won twelve titles, including the Champions League in Cologne at the end of May.
Karabatic and 15 other people are currently facing criminal charges. The defendants, including Karabatic’s partner, Geraldine Pillet and his brother Luka, were targeted by the judiciary after a game by his then employer, Montpellier AHB, at the club Cesson Rennes in May 2012. There was a suspicion that the players were manipulating an outside game to collect money on a half-time delay with bets placed themselves or made by relatives.
On October 2nd, a criminal proceeding was initiated against Karabatic. Only in mid-June did the backroom player again reject participation in a game manipulation in court.
